Welcome to West Wood Golf Society

-for our 22nd Season!

1993 ~ 2014

That time of the year has arrived where you need to clean the golf clubs, check the liver and get ready for a hectic new season.

We have organised a great line up of courses stating with the Grange on Friday 25th April.

We have listened to you and for most of the outings we will be hosting the dinner back in the Leopardstown Inn so everyone can get a chance to mix together and enjoy the evening.

The economy is still in recovery mode and we have been able to continue getting great value from the golf clubs. In addition, we have kept our membership fee at a ridiculously low €30 for the third year running.

However, like most other Societies the past couple of years have impacted on our numbers and we are looking for your help. We would like more golfers, so invite your pals along and have a great day out. We are on a Membership Drive – new blood is always welcome as is the competition. We’re still going after 22 years so we must be doing something right.

The massive success of Matchplay (brainchild of former Captain Dave Quinn) will see it return again this season and it will start at the second outing – make sure you tick the box on your membership form to ensure your entry. This year it will be mandatory to play opposite your opponent and results have to be in on time – no extensions.

The competitive Golfer of the Year competition continues and this year it will be just your FOUR best cards to count out of the six outings.

We will be introducing some additional TEAM competitions to the usual Singles Stableford at some of the outings to add an extra bit of fun to the day.

We will be repeating the Captains Challenge (brainchild of John Cooney) following on from its very successful introduction last year. This will happen later in the year so watch this space.

We are revisiting Waterford for the away trip and we are staying in the Tower Hotel and playing Waterford Castle on Friday June 27th. There is interest in playing golf on the Saturday and staying over the second night. If this is of interest please let us know asap and we may go back to the old days and have a two day competition, maybe!

Last but not least – a Warm Welcome to Colin Murphy as our 2014 Captain and make sure you put August 22nd in your diary for his Captain’s Day in Portmarnock Hotel & Links.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 1st Tee at The Grange GC on 25th April!
